CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY TECHNICIAN (CIT)

Construction is the largest industry in the United States, employing more people than any other single industry. Over the past two decades, the Construction Industry has experienced many technological advances, which have resulted in a demand for more cost-effective construction.

The introduction of the new technologies has created a need for the development of construction education and training programs to help upgrade the skills and knowledge of these employed in the industry.

In its effort to focus on the goal of providing the most up-to-date educational opportunities, NAWIC Education Foundation has developed the CIT (Construction Industry Technician) Program which incorporated the latest changes in the Industry. The Construction Industry Technician represents an overview of the construction industry and its processes. Lessons to be covered include such subjects as type of construction, forms of business ownership, contractual arrangements, contract documents, and the construction process.

The Construction Industry Technician is a self-paced, home study program. Passing an examination at the end of the course establishes mastery of the material and upon successful completion of the program the participant will receive the Construction Industry Technician Certifications. This certification acknowledges the accomplishment of attaining a higher professional level in the construction industry.

Throughout the program of study it is recommended that the participant use the National Association of Women in Construction's Construction Dictionary to aid in the better understanding of the lesson.

An INSTRUCTOR'S MANUAL is available with the Construction Industry Technician Text. This manual may be used as a personal study guide or to help format and coordinate a classroom seminar series or course, which can be offered to the Construction Industry.

CIT PREP:
Developed by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) and Clemson University, the CIT Certification program is designed to familiarize construction personnel with all aspects of the construction industry from types of construction to contractual relationships, documentation, design, bid processes and stages of construction.

Upon completion of the course, a standardized test is administered and sent to Clemson University for grading. Those who achieve a satisfactory score (75%) are granted the distinction of 'Certified Industry Technician', allowing the use of the designation 'C.I.T.' after their name. This certification acknowledges the accomplishment of attaining a higher professional level in the construction industry.

Under a Strategic Partnership with NAWIC, Builders Exchanges around the country, including VBX, have been granted permission to administer this important program on behalf of their members.
